I've been designing websites and graphics since I was 13 years old. I'm obsessed with design trends and tools, with how design can be used to communicate with and influence an audience, and with the cultural impact of user experience, color, composition, shape, line, and form. I believe good design requires flexibility, thoughtful decision-making, and a connection to one's audience.
My background is in Anthropology and Writing. This influences my work in almost every medium, and drives me to tap into the emotional core of user-focused interaction. From UI/UX to teaching, photography to copy, sketching to digital painting, vector graphics, photomanipulation, even poetry, performance, and libretto, I'm guided by creativity and most importantly cultural connection, and in using any tools at my disposal toward creating an intuitive, enjoyable, and encouraging experience for the viewer.
I've worked both as a freelancer and as part of an in-house team, and I find team-work to have the most potential. I love people, and particularly love seeing the merging of difference perspective and ideas that can happen when designers collaborate with developers or CEOs, where new ideas are brought to table from all directions. Whether I'm working in startups or multi-national businesses, I take pride in contributing to and supporting the success of my fellows in a collaborative environment.
I have worked for startup accelerators, small businesses, and individual clients, to forward their goals through thoughtful, innovative design and strategy. I commit to my projects 100%, tirelessly chasing perfect pixel ratios and tweaking code with a personal investment in an ever more valuable, beautiful product. Moreover, I'm committed to continuing to expand my skillset, forging new connections, and making my bosses and clients (and my momma) proud.
Most of my skillsets are self-taught, and it means I'm fearless when it comes to new programs, technologies, or ideas. I know how to dive right into a new project, when to ask questions, and how to stay motivated through to the final sprint. Lately I've been working on developing mobile application and learning management products, helping several budding companies navigate the impact of each product decision. Here I can let my powers combine to consider how branding affects storytelling, culture affects experience, and how all of it adds up to user retention or loss. I'm all about strategy. (And I'm a big 80s cartoon fan.)
